A Life Worth Sharing: Jane Velez-Mitchell, author and inspiration .

The question, asked a decade ago,  came as a complete surprise: “Will you serve on the Advisory Board of Writers in Treatment?”

It was Leonard Buschel asking, and up until that moment I thought he knew what he was doing. “Why would you want my advice, Leonard? I’m not exactly the recovery poster child and the only steps I ever worked were the ones I saw performed by the Temptations and the Four Tops.”

“Diversity of opinion and perspective,” he explained. “From the clash of differing opinions comes the spark of truth.”

He convinced me, and I came on board the Advisory Board.

To our mutual delight, Writers in Treatment has helped writers and their families, produced the Reel Recovery Film Festival and Symposium, published the Addiction/Recovery e-Bulletin, and created an event honoring those who bless the lives of others by sharing their experience, strength and hope with those who could use more of each.

Time goes by so quickly,–February 22nd is the 9th annual Experience Strength and Hope Awards. The recipient is Jane Velez-Mitchell,

. For six years she hosted her own show on HLNJane Velez-Mitchell (formerly known as Issues with Jane Velez-Mitchell) replacing Glenn Beck, who moved to Fox News Channel.[2] She is often seen commenting on high-profile cases for CNNTruTVE! and other national cable TV shows. Velez-Mitchell frequently guest hosts for Nancy Grace on her Headline News show. Velez-Mitchell reported for the nationally syndicated show Celebrity Justice (produced by corporate sibling Telepictures). She also appears as a substitute host on HLN’s Showbiz Tonight. Jane is also one of America’s leading animal rights advocates.   She is a woman who knows what she wants, and what she doesn’t want. Of course, you can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you’ll find that you can get advance tickets to the Experience Strength and Hope Awards

Jane went from addiction and overconsumption to a simpler life with more joy and less aggravation. She shares it all in her new memoir, iWant.
